The Cox Orange is a variety that was discovered by coincidence. The parent varieties are unknown. The Cox Orange was discovered in England about 1825. It has been available on the market since 1859. The small to medium sized apple has a round and medium bellied shape. Its skin is yellow-green. What is special about it, is that the fruit side, which was tilted towards the sun on the tree, is orange to strawberry red in color. On the calyx side there is often a slightly rusty color. The flesh of the Cox Orange is greenish-yellow to cream-colored and quite juicy. The Cox Orange is an aromatic apple with a sweet aromatic taste and notes of fine acidity.
