The Holsteiner Cox / Roter Holsteiner Cox is a true North German. It has been distributed in northern Germany since 1925. Red mutants of this variety have been widely distributed since 1990. This apple is being increasingly cultivated on the Lower Elbe. It is characterized by a medium to large fruit with a blunt conical, round shape. Its skin is green-yellow, later golden yellow to orange-red. The stalk pit and the calyx pit may show slight cracks and russeting. The Holsteiner Cox has a creamy to yellow flesh. It is firm and juicy. This apple tastes spicy-fruity, very aromatic and mildly sour.
