Did you know that there are more than 2,000 varieties of blackberries in Europe?

Here in Central Europe, blackberries are one of the oldest types of fruit. Formerly collected as wild fruits in wooded areas, the fruit today belongs to the cultivated plants that are also grown in the Alte Land. They are self-pollinating plants, but higher yields are possible when several shrubs are planted next to each other.
Just like in the old times with grandma: the berries taste super delicious when they go straight from the bush into the mouth. Not every household has the opportunity to do this. That’s why blackberries are offered in small, portioned containers. They are best enjoyed shortly after purchase. This is because the shelf life of the delicate fruits is limited.
